Training Tasks
These are training tasks I assigned to my documentation team over the course of a year and my goals for what the team would learn from the assignment. After completion of each task, we met as a group to discuss what and how they did as well as ways to use what they learned.
TASK:
Conversion of selected paper enrollment forms to HTML documents and then within the enrollment portal application using its CMS form editor.
GOALS:
HTML skills. Differences between paper and electronic forms. Use of online tools.
TASK:
Company logo production using Adobe Illustrator for multiple target sizes.
GOALS:
Illustrator proficiency. Best practices for graphics.
TASK:
Response to the customer’s request for an example of a process flow from a technical document—(1) How they would do it and (2) Their evaluation of how I did it.
GOALS:
Independent assessment and approach to formal requests from customers. Presentation of information.
TASK:
Evaluation of webpage wording differences.
GOALS:
Effective communication. UI/UX.
TASK:
Write a set of step-by-step instructions for producing a deliverable set of documentation and compare against the others.
GOALS:
Online help creation. Process knowledge and explanation. Worth of comparative assessments and collaboration to identify gaps and similarities.
TASK:
Modify a PowerPoint presentation to update company name, logo, and other elements.
GOALS:
PowerPoint proficiency. Reinforcement of previous company logo production task. Presentation skills.
TASK:
Add a watermark to multiple PDFs that are a mix of text and graphics-only.
GOALS:
Acrobat Pro proficiency. Document presentation.
TASK:
Remove a watermark from a Word document.
TASK:
Create a swim lane diagram for an updated process.
GOALS:
Visio proficiency. Diagram alternatives to linear flowcharts. Understanding and presentation of processes.
TASK:
Critique the state diagram I created for a new development tool.
GOALS:
Additional diagram alternatives to linear flowcharts. Understanding process state transitions. Providing feedback without regard to rank.
